It looks like they were playing Twister and dozed off. For years they wouldn't sleep near each other, but now they tend to cuddle up more. Rocky on the left and Wallop on the right, both sound asleep.

This morning I woke up to a meow and opened my eyes to find the cat staring at me again. Aha! So he is meowing to wake me up. But just one meow, so he looks all innocent when I 'randomly' wake up.

Lately when I wake up, I open my eyes and find my cat Rocky sitting by my head staring at me. If I doze off and wake up a bit later, he is still there, just waiting. Finally I just get up and he wants his food. At least he hasn't resorted to pawing at me or biting my nose. It's just a little creepy having a stalker.

Fleas

We have indoor cats, but somehow they managed to get fleas. What a nightmare. We've finally got a handle on it. But the poor guys had a rough time of it for a month or so. And they developed some bad habits because of it. Now the challenge is to gently break them of the bad habits.

If you get fleas, contact your vet right away. The sooner you get things under control the better for all of you.

Cat-cident

When we got home from grocery shopping I went to sit down at my computer and noticed the cats (probably) had knocked a not quite empty glass of Mt Dew off my desk. Most of it went on top of my embroidery bin, but the lid was on it, slightly askew. Looks like none got inside thankfully. It also managed to miss the keyboard (thankfully). Whew, that was a close one.

My cats aren't thrilled about the new layout of my bedroom furniture. They can no longer hop from bed to desk to lap to window. So they just sit on the bed and meow for some loving.

Here is a man and his cat from yesterday's SCA event at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley CA.

And a friend of mine had to take her cat to the vet where he had surgery for kidney stones in his bladder. Poor thing.

I took these shots of Wallop snoozing in a sunny window. I'm just glad he's feeling better after his visit to the vet. He's finally eating the wet food and pumpkin mixture the vet put him on. I just hope he stays healthy.

One of Those Days

You know that expression "One of those days"? It came from days like today. Wallop needed to go back to the vet to get cleaned out so I had to drop everything I had planned today to go take him. Then I had to get home to do a 6 PM tarot reading. At the end of the reading just as I was about to take a photo to send the client via email, Wallop crawled up on my bed and laid down in the middle of the cards and fell fast asleep. His day was worse than mine.

Then the moment I got relaxed the phone rang and it was from a guy we hadn't heard from in months that wanted to come over right away to pick up his arrows. So I certainly wasn't going to say no. The house was a disaster and no way to clean it in time, so I had to just swallow my pride and let the poor guy in.
It's 9 PM and I haven't had time to eat dinner yet, so off I go.

The week sure went by quick. I had a lot more planned but didn't have the energy to do it. My hands are still sore from woodcarving, and so I've had to lay off the knitting and crocheting. I'm looking forward to the weekend. My daughter may visit. We'll see.

The universe works in strange ways. The white cat is outside the window so Rocky hissed and Wallop came running. Wallop stepped on my answering machine and triggered a message from the library that my books were overdue.
So I was looking the library up on the Internet, when I realized he'd triggered an old message. So since I had the site open I checked the due date and they are due tomorrow. Laughs. I renewed them online.

Kittens everywhere

Someone across the street now has a yard full of kittens. Judging by the sizes, it's two different litters. Colorful bunch: calicoes, tabbies, patches, stripes.
I don't think 'spay' is in their mindset. Seems like this happens every year.

This cat likes to lurk in my backyard. I named him ghost because he always runs away when I open the door. So I had to take his photo through a screen door. He likes to sit there and torment my indoor cats. I have no idea if Ghost has an owner or several owners.

The chatroom was talking about pet names. This guy's aunt named her cat K.C. (short for Kitty Cat). Then she got another cat and named it Casey. It wasn't until she took them to the vet and he called out their names that he asked, "Why did you give both cats the same name?" She never realized both names sound identical.

We have a stray cat named Bob that we adopted about 2 years ago. Everyone moved out of the apt. complex for remodeling and no one took him home. He's always had a hard time digesting food, even though the vet gave him a clean bill of health. Well, I said to my boyfriend that maybe the cat had tooth problems, because his kibble always looks like he swallowed it whole when he throws up. So tonight I'm playing with some yarn and the cat opens his mouth all the way a few times. So I gently pry his mouth open to see if I can tell anything. And I'll be darned if his lower left fang isn't broken off completely. Anyone out there know if the vet can fix a broken tooth for less than an arm and a leg?

You might say just feed him softer food, but our other cat is on a hard food only diet because of urinary track issues, and it's damn near impossible to keep 3 indoor cats from eating out of the same food dish.

I decided my cats must need aliases. Wallop should be called 'The Shredder' because he digs his teeth and claws into the yarn and tries to destroy it. Bob should be called 'Stringslayer' because he cannot resist pouncing on any moving string in his vicinity. And Rocky should be called 'The Assassin' because he let's you pet him until you are lured into complacency, then he lashes out with his claws.

The story of BOB.

For about five years I lived in a condo complex in Midway City. Bob was owned by a previous tenant. Someone had him declawed, but whomever owned him had moved away and left him living in the outdoors at the complex, eating from the dumpster and from whatever residents fed him. He was constantly chased by kids and dogs and other cats.
One day the entire complex was sold and people started moving out for a massive remodeling. Bob hung around through all those days of pounding and moving, and bit by bit everyone moved away. We were about the last ones to move, and still, there was Bob. He was used to all the neighborhood kids petting him and now he was all alone.
We already had two indoor cats, and had many misgivings about adopting another cat, and turning him into an indoor cat. So after two weeks of driving over to feed Bob, we took him to a vet for a check-up. The vet said he'd never adapt to living indoors again and thought we were crazy to try.
Well, we gave it a go. Bob actually adjusted immediately to the new apt. It was the other two cats that had trouble adjusting to Bob. Wallop stalked him continously.
It took maybe six months, but now everyone is getting along for the most part. Most skirmishes are of a playful nature. Bob has only gotten out once in over a year, and I think that was just out of curiousity. I scooped him up and set him back in the dining room.
We always have to remind people to shut the doors though.
